I AM THAT 
 
 
You have identified yourself with a physical body. 

This is true. 

You are not able to identify yourself with 
another physical body. 
 
This is also true. 
 
Are you then a part of this physical body? 
 
Or you do not know how to shift your identity? 

Unless you know who is this who identifies, 
you can do little progress
 in answering above questions. 

How will you know ? 
 
Try to answer this question. 
 
There is no urgency because you do not see what you will 
gain by probing this issue. 
 
It could be an intellectual past-time. 
 
You can go about it at your leisure.

It is very unfortunate because all your problems, 
without an exception, are related to this question.

Imagine a box. An empty box. 
 
A microscopic virus lands in the box. 
 
This virus has the property that it draws into itself 
anything that comes in contact with it. 
 
And it grows. 
 
It does not release anything from its grip. 
 
So it keeps growing unchecked. 
 
Compare yourself with that virus. 
 
Initially there was a pure body. 
 
The 'YOU' fell in it and started accumulating 
everything that came its way. The 'YOU' started growing. 
It is this 'YOU' which controls the body in which it has fallen.
 When this body dies, the 'YOU' leaves it and jumps into 
another working body. But it can normally enter 
another body at the time of conception only. 
Imagine what mess it would be, if it could swap bodies 
whenever it wanted !! 
 
Probe the characteristics of this 'YOU', at least 
because it controls the body. 
 
It never wants to die. 
 
When the body dies, 'YOU' leaves and carries with it 
everything it accumulated. 
 
When you cut a tree, you notice several concentric circles
 on its cross-section. 
 
If you could cut the 'YOU', you could see such circles
 identifying the accumulation during its stay with various bodies. 

 
 
What does 'YOU' accumulate? 
 
It accumulates the impressions of every experience --- 
 
Pleasurable experience, painful experience, praise, abuse, 
a hurt - physical or by gesture and so on.
 It is extremely impressionable. 
 
It develops likes and dislikes based on what is
 pleasurable and what is not. 
 
This in turn breeds all the conflict you face in your life. 
 
What it receives greatly depends on the body it uses. 
 
It can turn a body into a world class player, 
a national hero, a dacoit.. this all depends on what is 
pleasurable and what the body structure can offer, 
the environment, the status of parents of the body etc. 
The whole process is known as 'conditioning' or 'Samskara'. 
 
You want to re-live the wonderful time you had. 
Depending on your conditioning you will work towards it. 
Here the you is 'YOU'. You could kill someone to achieve the goal, 
try some refined tricks, may do nothing about it, 
may go into a depression unable to achieve it, 
may destroy the body - a process known as suicide, 
go to a Master, a temple, a powerful man or to a middleman etc.
 All depending on conditioning and the pressure built by the situation. 
 
'YOU' will similarly avoid all painful situations. 
 
'YOU' would think none of the misery it will spread. 
 
As long as 'YOU' operates in the body, no matter how 
benign the conditioning, it will be a living source of misery. 
 
When 'YOU' dissolves, the body is controlled by 
the super-consciousness and whatever it does,
 it is in the best interest of the world at large or 'SAMASHTI'.

The people who tried to study the properties 
of 'YOU' stumbled upon a wonderful sight. 
 
They saw the existence of subtler bodies associated 
with the physical body. 
 
The behavior of 'YOU' was linked to the extent
 various subtle bodies were developed. 
 
They discovered that different bodies evolved to different extent. 
 
They discovered that it was possible to develop 
the bodies systematically. 
 
They discovered that 'YOU' utilized all bodies to meet 
its goals and breed misery. 
 
The 'YOU' had to be sublimated. 
 
They discovered that there was no way it could be done. 

When you know the characteristics of 'YOU' then 
in your utter helplessness the 'YOU' vanishes.
 The process is known as Tapasya. 
 
No method, no Mantra, no Yantra, no Guru, 
no Devata can annihilate 'YOU'.

If 'YOU' stops accumulating , it will stop growing. 
 
If it loosens its grip, it will start diminishing. 
 
But this is against its nature. So it will live for ever. 
 
The person who is free from 'YOU' is able to carry
 the super-consciousness or Guru-Tattva. 
 
Such a person and only such person can become a Master. 
 
If 'YOU' allows the Master to access it, 
then 'YOU' starts evaporating because
 whatever Guru accesses, Guru-Tattva purifies it. 

'YOU' is the only impurity. 
 
Tapasya is the study of 'YOU'. 

Allowing a Master to probe 'YOU' is 'Samarpana'. 
When the Guru-Tattva starts purifying the bodies, 
evaporation of 'YOU', 
it is Guru-krupa. 
When 'YOU' disappears, it is bliss. 
The life thereafter is joyful, blissful. 
This is Dnyana. 

What you know by hearsay is information and what you get 
as a result of Tapasya is Dnyana.
